Email is read by a person. Please say which iPhone and Apple Watch you have, which version of PacingSplit (Settings → About), and what you expected to happen — it saves a round trip.

Writing a session

A step is how long, then how fast:

If you would rather not type, the Builder tab sets every step with a wheel.

Getting it onto the watch

The watch app isn't there

Open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to Available Apps and install PacingSplit. It normally installs by itself alongside the iPhone app, but this is the manual route when it doesn't.

The session doesn't arrive

Keep both devices near each other with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on, and open PacingSplit on the watch once. Sessions are delivered in the background and can take a moment; routes are larger and take longer.

During a run

Pace shows “–:––”

The watch is still finding GPS, which can take a minute in cities or under tree cover. If it never arrives, check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and confirm PacingSplit is allowed. Without location the session still runs and still cues you — you lose live pace and the map.

A distance segment won't finish

If GPS is lost, or you're on a treadmill, the watch notices that the ground isn't moving and offers Skip to next. You can also skip any segment manually by swiping right to the controls.

The run wasn't saved to Health

The watch can only run one workout at a time. If the built-in Workout app or another running app was started during your session, it takes the recording over and PacingSplit will tell you on screen. Timing continues, but nothing is written to Health. Recording with another app on the phone is fine.

Routes

Export a GPX file from Strava, Komoot, Garmin Connect, AllTrails or any other planner, then open the Routes tab and import it. Send it to the watch and it will show on the map as you run, with a nudge if you drift off it. Route files are read entirely on your phone.

Screenshot import

Crop the screenshot to just the session before importing — the tighter the crop, the better the reading. Steps that couldn't be recognised are listed so nothing disappears quietly, and everything lands in the editor for you to check before you save. Always read it through before you run it.

Health and safety

PacingSplit is a training aid, not medical advice or a medical device. Check with a doctor before starting a new training plan, listen to your body rather than the watch, and stop if you feel unwell. Keep your eyes on the road: the app is built so that you don't need to look at your wrist.
